Education and Skills for S3

Education and Skills for S3

Since its initial conceptualisation, Smart Specialisation has assumed a strong place-based dimension, in recognition that innovation is locally and regionally driven and that different places need different investments. The EC proposal for Cohesion funds for 2021-2027 will strengthen regions’ capacities to implement Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3), through stronger concentration of investments under the Smarter Europe and Greener Europe objectives.

The new Policy Objective 1 "A smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation" under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) includes a specific objective for investment in “developing skills for smart specialisation, industrial transition and entrepreneurship”.
