Description

The Summit is a special event proposed and supported by the Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel. The topics discussed in the Summit are of high importance for the European education agenda. Europe needs to develop a prepared workforce and support Europeans to deal with the societal challenges of the present and of the future, and education is the leverage. The Summit looks into how universities play a strategic role to foster transformative innovation and support European values.

In this event, the Joint Research Centre takes the role of co-organiser of a plenary session, as well as its moderation. The plenary is on STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). It proposes a space to exchange and debate on how STEAM approaches will contribute to strengthen Europe’s innovative potential, by looking at the STEAM needs for jobs and for citizenship. Smart Specialisation strategies, the PRI (Partnerships for Regional Innovation), Open Science and Open Education are key components to STEAM approaches to promote transformative innovation. In charge of the co-organisation and moderation of the session is Andreia Inamorato, JRC senior researcher, member of the smart specialisation strategy (S3) team.

This session on STEAM counts on the opening by the Commissioner Mariya Gabriel, followed by a lively discussion on topics such as the role of science transfer, the ‘A’ for arts in STEAM approaches, the role of creativity, robotics and deep tech.
