Azerbaijan and the JRC together at the Horizon Europe’s Information Day event
Within the framework of research and innovation cooperation between the European Union and the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Information Day on the Horizon Europe Program took place on 6 February 2023. The European Commission (EC) and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) organized the event, which gathered around 200 specialists from various state organizations and scientific institutions from Azerbaijan.
Opening remarks were in charge of the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Peter Michalko who emphasized the importance of the EU as a strategic partner for Azerbaijan. Especially, when conducting research on topics related to the achievement of sustainable development goals, addressing the challenges connected to environmental and climate change, energy efficiency, among others, and implementing innovation actions in Azerbaijan.
The EU’s Joint Research Centre presented its most recent publication about Smart Specialisation in the Eastern Partnership, which focus on the economic, innovation, scientific and technological specialisations in Azerbaijan. The mapping results of the preliminary economic domains included in the study attempts to facilitate the access to detailed analysis for the development of Smart Specialisation in Azerbaijan, at national and regional levels.
