Energy is indeed the most popular priority selected in smart specialisation strategies across Europe, with over 2/3 of all EU regions choosing at least one energy-related priority. From the perspective of Cohesion Policy, effective uptake of funds related to innovation in energy will be a crucial element of this pillar, as well as the actual implementation of the smart specialisation strategies. In this context, the existence of these national or regional smart specialisation strategy, which complies with the features of well-performing national or regional R&I systems, are indeed a prerequisite for the effective and efficient achievement of a specific objective for all investment priorities under thematic objective 1 (TO1): Strengthening research, technological development and innovation.

Objective: the purpose of the event is to showcase specific advancements of Smart Specialisation in the area of energy. Panellists and participants will be kindly invited to discuss on the following topics:

  • What are the main challenges for regions, when regions are passing from design to implementation of S3 energy priorities!
  • How collaborative frameworks are supporting a better implementation of S3 energy priorities

Target group: stakeholders and practitioners of Smart Specialisation Strategies having included energy-related priorities at national and regional level.
