Description
The JRC is organising from 24 to 26 January 2018 in Ispra (IT) the event "Macro-Regional Innovation Week" with a focus on Science and Technology (S&T) Knowledge for Policy Support and Collaboration within the EU Macro-Regions linked and the Western Balkans and with a special emphasis on the Smart Specialisation and S&T Support to Policies (agriculture, environment, energy and transport, and biotechnologies). The event will explore the ways on how the Joint Research Centre, the European Commission's science and knowledge service, may best support the EU S&T policies throughout the whole policy cycle.
The event will promote the opening of the JRC's research infrastructures and laboratories and showcase JRC's technical and scientific competences, in particular in the field of agriculture, environment, energy, transport and biotechnologies. This will also be the occasion to present the key results of JRC's Scientific Support activities to the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) that may be relevant to other macro-regions in particular for the Western Balkans, for the countries of which the EU the needs to maintain a credible enlargement perspective in the coming decade. In this context, JRC's Macro-Regional Innovation Week intends to promote the exchange of best practices and knowledge among local and international policy and decision makers, academics, financial institutions and various actors of innovation and technology transfer practitioners among Europe's macro-regions, namely Danube, Baltic, Adriatic-Ionian and Alpine and Western Balkans.
The focus of the S3 Platform involvement will be on presenting the existing S3 trans-national and macro-regional activities – including the Thematic Smart Specialisation Platforms and their corresponding thematic S3 Partnerships, which together contribute to the EU R&I networking and support the development of a competitive innovation ecosystem across the EU macro-regions.
The three days of seminars and workshops will therefore target the connecting regions that are relevant because of significant historical and economic ties and because of their inclusion in some overlapping EU macro-regional strategies.
The event will bring together innovation practitioners and regional stakeholders from the EU member states, enlargement and neighbourhood countries covered by the European Macro-Regions (the Danube, Baltic, Adriatic-Ionian and Alpine Region strategies) and the Western Balkans. Participants are likely to include: research and innovation policy-makers and representatives of academia and technology transfer offices.
