Name Description
Key Technologies of the Future & ICT This innovation field functions as a cross-sectional field. It is intended to serve as a think tank and impulse generator for the other fields of innovation. New technologies provide solutions for global challenges and are therefore of central importance for all sectors and areas.
Energy & Innovative Construction This innovation field aims at creating an intelligent and integrated energy system that links the areas of electricity, heating/cooling and mobility across sectors. The system is to be acceptance-secured, technology-open, market- and system-integrative and characterised by renewable energies, energy efficiency and the intelligent linking of centralised and decentralised structures. The energy transition should be designed in such a way that a reliable and resilient supply at competitive prices continues to exist in the future.
Environmental & Circular Economy This innovation field aims at promoting the resource-efficient and -effective use of products in NRW. The industrial location NRW is to distinguish itself through industrial and scientific competence carriers for all steps of a sustainable (circular) economy and tap the potentials of a growing environmental economy. New requirements for sustainability, resource conservation as well as the transition to bio-based raw materials are to be understood as an opportunity for the development of future-proof business models
Culture, Media & Creative Industries, Innovative Services This innovation field aims at making the best possible use of the innovation potential from the diversity of creative milieus and companies in NRW, to identify new value creation opportunities and thus to secure an attractive, "smart" location for media and creative professionals. Against the backdrop of the digital transformation, sectors such as trade and tourism should also be supported in the development of new, customer-centred service models and in tapping the potential of digital platforms.
Innovative Materials & Intelligent Production The innovation field aims to develop new materials that are used in improved and networked processes and thus create the basis for the products of tomorrow's markets. Supported by comprehensive digitisation in the sense of Industry 4.0, the aim is to create a competitive and greenhouse gas-neutral industry that builds on NRW's industrial strengths.
Connected Mobility & Logistics The innovation field aims at combining different means of transport as seamlessly as possible according to their respective strengths in intelligent and networked route chains. In this way, a safe, sustainable, economically sensible and reliable mobility system of the future is to be developed. As a federal state with the largest population and one of the highest traffic volumes, NRW offers a wide range of prerequisites for researching, testing and applying new (digital) mobility and logistics concepts.
Innovative medicine, health & life science The innovation field aims to create new processes, techniques and methods as innovation drivers for the healthcare industry, healthcare provision and healthy nutrition. Based on NRW's good starting position thanks to its efficient science and research infrastructure, innovative solutions are to be created in cooperation with specialised companies and NRW's pioneering role in the digitalisation of the healthcare industry is to be further expanded.
