Environment Climate change, pollution, ecosystems, eco-innovation, water resources
Tourism Attention is paid to sustainable tourism, targeted forms of tourism and related services (cycling, gastronomic tourism, ecotourism, etc.), social dimensions of tourism, addressing seasonality, digitalisation and tourism, social networks and the role of the internet, quality management, competition monitoring/analysis.
Agriculture and nutrition Emphasis will be placed on biotechnological applications, ICTs and robotic technologies to boost efficiency, certification and branding, quality and safety management, biodiversity, dealing with climate change, sustainable treatment of water resources, waste, and energy, with an emphasis on renewables.
Health, ICTs and biomedical applications Emphasis will be placed on digitalisation of medical records, quality and safety management, early warning, diagnosis, and early medical care provision, molecular biology, genetics, diagnosis and targeted drugs, public health and quality-of-life issues, medical tourism.
Transport, logistics and shipping Emphasis will be placed on public transport systems, smart cities, alternative fuels and energy efficiency, maritime infrastructure development, maritime tourism, intelligent transport systems.
Structured environment and construction Emphasis placed on urban networks and interconnectivity (smart cities, integrated waste management, transport, energy use, etc.), environment-friendly energy-efficient buildings, cultural/architectural heritage, technological updating of buildings, construction materials, resource use efficiency, construction methods.
Energy production and use, renewables and hydrocarbons Emphasis will be placed on solar energy applications and photovoltaics, advanced materials and energy storage, high concentration technologies, co-generation of solar energy and water desalination, heat pump technologies, insulation, heat transfer. Wind power (aeolic energy) will also be highlighted; materials, fluid dynamic models, simulation techniques will be emphasized. Applications of renewables in construction, tourism, agriculture, fisheries,etc. will be pursued. In terms of hydrocarbons, natural gas storage and use and related RTDI are underscored. In terms of energy use, attention is given to efficient energy systems in buildings, ICT use for energy use optimisation, and technologies for energy transmission networks, integrating energy produced by renewables in them.
