Slovenian Smart Specialization Strategy - S4 represents an implementing document of several previously adopted Slovenian strategic documents which integrates and translates the policies into concrete and tangible actions to achieve focused national actions in tune with the main development actors: INTEGRATION = CRITICAL MASS = BREAKTHROUGH.
S4 is strategically focused on SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGIES FOR A HEALTHY LIFE which will help turn Slovenia into a green, creative and smart region with outstanding conditions fostering creativity and innovation, focused on development of middle- and high-tech solutions in niche fields. S4 facilitates Slovenia’s transformation from a follower to a co-creator of global trends.
S4 is Based on priorities, structured on 3 priority pillars and 9 areas of application. Pillar 1 – Digital (i. Smart cities and communities, ii. Smart buildings and homes, including wood chain); Pillar 2 – Circular (iii. Networks for transition into circular economy, iv. Sustainable food production, v. Sustainable tourism); Pillar 3 – (S)Industry 4.0 (vi. Factories of the future, vii. Health-medicine, viii. Mobility, ix. Development of materials as products)
Long-term collaboration in all relevant areas of S4 application has been promoted through Strategic Research & Innovation Partnerships (SRIP). These partnerships are not newly established structures but enhanced existing structures which give a decisive role to the economy, and not the state. Each of the nine areas of application witnessed an establishment of one partnership by the end of 2016 following a spontaneous, not policy-driven bottom-up initiative recognising the need for cooperation and integration. The initiative also included an agreement on coordinators of SRIPs (=clusters). More than 400 companies and 100+ knowledge institutions joined the initiative, and as partnerships are open, other actors will undoubtedly join them in the future. This is particularly important for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Agriculture and food production is included within the scope of SRIP for Sustainable food production, which is being coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia – Chamber of Agricultural and Food Enterprises. Members of the DIH AGRIFOOD network are included into the SRIP partnership and are in this way following strategic and operational steps to digitize this industry. By joining the events and workshops of the SRIP, partners of DIH AGRIFOOD are shaping this sector and transforming it into the Digital or so called Smart Agriculture.
The activities of the hub are well aligned with the Slovenia national initiative for digitising industry, Slovenian Digital Coalition.

- Provided solution to meet the needs:
Evineyard helps you with paperwork and crucial decisions – to save time, improve sustainability and performance. Evineyard matches the latest technology and science with the real needs of the winegrowers.
The eVineyard solution is introducing new technology in form of sensor technology intended to help vineyard farmers to improve the vine growing and production processes. eVineyard is designed with simplicity of use in mind from the ground up, since it is the only fully integrated, complete vineyard management system, on the market. It combines sensor data with data about farming activities and vineyard parameters, to give you punctual decision support about when to spray.
The eVineyard is applicable for implementation at vine growers, typically those who have at least 20 Ha of vineyards, but also the smaller ones are the target for implementation. The solution is intended for increasing the cost efficiency since it optimises irrigation management, spraying and general production management and administration. On the other hand, by implementing the solution the wine producer is increasing the quality of products and increase the production. The solution is mitigating the risk of losing the entire crop due to disease outbreak or climate changes and also the risk of losing any data, since they are always stored on the safe in the cloud.
