Lithuania Agro Space Digital Innovation Hub (Agro Space DIH)

 

Lithuania Agro Space DIH is a non-profit regional focus network that brings together Lithuanian research, education, business and governmental institution organisations all aimed at fostering cross-sectoral digital technology innovation. A sum of 11 key stakeholders (governmental institutions, clusters, industry & business associations and science & technology parks) have expressed their interest in mutual cooperation and the establishment of Agro Space DIH.

 

The main strategic objectives of the Agro Space DIH are to commence and develop public sector, business and scientific cooperation in the fields of agrofood and related fields digitalisation, agrospace and agroinnovation industry innovation and novice production process, material and technology development. These objectives are to help create added value, improve business and service processes and foster mutual communication between different actors involved in the process, initiate development of new products, improve quality assurance and to participate in EU and national programmes.

 

Vilnius Industry and Business Association (VPVA) acts as the coordinator of the DIH. Established in 1996, VPVA comprises over 300 members from different industries, representing various business directions, other business associations, manufacturing, service and consulting companies in Lithuania.

 

Agro Space DIH is tailored to ensure that every company, small or large, high-tech or not, can grasp digital opportunities. In cooperation with member and partner organisations the hub is able to provide the needed support and consultations for local SME’s in Lithuania in fields related to digital technology development. The main objective here is to help create added value, improve business and service processes and foster mutual communication between different actors involved in the process.  This is being achieved through so called “One-Stop-Shop” service that is provided by the network and partnering organisations. The network enables all industry players to initiate, design and reciprocate technologies and best practices at any given development phase.

 

The majority (around ¾) of the network’s activities are aimed at bringing together (events, search of partners, finding investment, helping to commercialise products and services) Lithuanian research and development expertise in the field of digital agriculture technology innovations and rural development. The usual practice of DIH is to lead a company through the full-length process (strategic phase, initial phase, concept phase, development phase) of achieving the solution launch, focusing mainly on TRL4 to TRL9. The scope of services also include networking, collaborative research, commercial infrastructure, financial aid through different instruments (e.g. Horizon 2020, COSME, etc.) 

 

Agro Space DIH vision is to become the “go to” solution provider for development, digital technology transfer and innovation dissemination in key sectors: agriculture, space, manufacturing (Industry 4.0) and service innovation. The priority is to advance the partnership capabilities of agricultural and space technology companies by amplifying the network’s platform within Lithuania and transnationally.

Agro Space DIH koordinatorius - Vilniaus pramonės ir verslo asociacija, veikianti nuo 1996 m., vienijanti daugiau kaip 300 skirtingų pramonės ir paslaugų sektorių įmonių, tame tarpe ir kitas asocijuotas struktūras. 

 

Agro Space DIH sukurtas taip, kad tiek mažos, tiek didelės, kiek pradedančios dirbti skaitmenizavimo srityje, tiek turinčios didžiulią patirtį ir netgi teikiantis sprendimus kitiems, galėtų dirbti kartu. Agro Space DIH dirba vieno langelio principu, pradedant nuo pagalbos sugalvojant idėją ar sprendimą ir baigiant technologijų įsigijimu ir įdiegimu. 

 

Daugumą tinklo veiklos apimčių (apie ¾) sudaro parnerystės veiklų orgnaizavimas (renginiai, partnerių paieška, produktų ir paslaugų komercializavimas) ir sprendimų diegimas Žemės ūkio skaitmeninimo srityje. Dažniausiai veikiama pasitelkiant "vedimo už rankos nuo idėjos iki produkto" principą (problemos išgryninimas, idėjos sugalvojimas, koncepcijos parengimas, produkto ar paslaugos sukūrimas bei išvystymas), dažniausiai fokusuojantis nuo 4 iki 9 TPL'o. Į darbų apimtį paprastai įeina ir finansavimo pritraukimas (pagal Horizon 2020, COSME ir kitas programas)

 

Agro Space DIH vizija - tapti vienu iš lyderių kuriant sprendimus skaitmeninių technologijų srityje Baltijos šalyse šiuose sektoriuose: žemės ūkio, kosmoso, gamybos (Pramonė 4.0). The hub takes part in consulting experts involved in designing the Lithuanian Industry Digitalisation Roadmap 2019 - 2030. In collaboration with other experts and focus groups a further development of the Lithuanian Smart Specialisation (in accordance with RIS3) focus areas is being carried out.

On a transnational level the DIH is a part of a consulting body in a project "Implementation of the Reforms Envisaged in The Association Agreements Between EU and Moldova in a Science, Innovation and Technology Sector” (https://orangeprojects.lt/en/moldova-projects) aimed at developing the Innovation Road Map of Moldova. Additionally, the DIH activities encompass being a stakeholder in the Innovation Framework for Challenge Oriented Intelligent Manufacturing (INforM, https://projects.interreg-baltic.eu/projects/inform-174.html), Baltic Large Scale Computing (BALTICLSC, https://projects.interreg-baltic.eu/projects/balticlsc-172.html) and Future Ecom (https://www.interregeurope.eu/future-ecom/) Interred Europe projects.

Challenge: To control farms operational processes, set up and track agrochemical planning and provide reports to state bodies, declare crop fields.
Solution: AgroSmart Farms 2.1. Maps.
AgroSmart Farms 2.1 was developed and implemented for Tiskunu Agro company which performs daily 3000+ tones loading processes and has an established base of more than 400 direct clients. The result was a smart maps based customizable digital software that helps the end users to set up agrochemical plans, schedule and assign upcoming tasks on a daily base. The software was also integrated so that the government official would get the needed farming related reports (declarations of crop fields, agrochemical usage, etc.) up to date.

Control of goods logistics and fleet management

AgroSmart Fertilisers was a custom made integrated digital solution for Agrochema Ltd. which is the the largest fertiliser manufacturer in the Baltic States. The solution was a programmed automated system for logistics, fleet management, automated generation and administration of documents for product prices and personnel. In this case, the digitalized system enabled smart planning of agrochemical product logistics and unloading according to a pre-established and autogenerated plan which is made in accordance to the internal procedures of product manufacturing.

Automatic Universal Adaptive Robotizable Digital Technological Devices

Challenge: At high speeds (performance) of the technology line, there is a problem with the exact positioning of the product, which is still solved by complex and expensive methods (3D positioning with servo or stepping motors).

A thorough analysis of programming, testing methodologies, and systems was carried out. The possibility of combining digital and technological equipment into a single modular, readily adaptable and controllable automatic line has been explored. After the implementation of planned R&D activities, a technological line was created in which as many as 5 different technological devices can operate and work in asynchronous mode, each of which is be able to process 2 identical products at the same time.

Efficient Technologies And Processes For Biogas And Biomethane Production

Challenge: Existing biogas and biomethane production technologies have major shortcomings in terms of sustainability, such as methane emissions in the biogas treatment process or relatively low methane emissions in the biogas itself, which makes biogas production and the use of biomethane economically unprofitable.
Solution: Development Of More Efficient Technologies And Processes For Biogas And Biomethane Production.
By investing in R&D non-analog digital and physical technologies were presented to the marker: 1. Technology for increasing methane concentration in biogas using biotechnological methods; 2. Technology for the use of second-generation carbon dioxide for the production of recyclable raw materials for biogas production; 3. Biomethane separation technology for biogas without methane losses; 4. The technology of ammonia separation from biogas and recycled substrates; 5. Technology for the balanced chemical composition and physical properties of substrates for biogas production; 6. Installations for the combustion of low and non-volatile methane gases using non-airborne gas mixtures. Digital contract reconciliation solution

Client Profile: AB Volfas Engelman, One Of The Oldest And Largest Beer Producers In Lithuania (http://volfasengelman.lt).
Challenge: Ineffective, non-standardized and difficult-to-control contract coordination processes. Billing into the system took a long time and resulted in errors.
Solution: SmartContract System.
The intelligent DocLogix digital contract reconciliation solution was made-to-order and fully implemented in Volfas Engelman AB. The solution enabled a fully automated contract approval process. As a result, the length of the process was greatly reduced, as the managers and sales team members now can interact and approve the contract via mobile apps. The decision to install optical character recognition (OCR) technology led to a shortening of the billing system from 1 minute to 2 seconds. The result is a 1.5-day time saving within a 1 month period. In addition, human error count dropped down sharply.

Sentinel-1 (SAR) and Sentinel-2 (MSI) products enable automated land and image processing with an atmospheric correction (removal of clouds). The two satellites and the digital software provide new ways of orbital correction, reduction of noise, calibrating process, terrain correction, ortho-rectification and cloud removing services. The combination of space and digital technology gave way to a drastic reduction of labor costs and time spent manually monitoring recipient activities. Physical visits to the area no longer required or reduced to a minimum. This digital solution acts as a new standard for all national governing and monitoring institution.

Innovative Digital Research Laboratory for Biogas

Client Profile: Biogas Power Plant Development Cluster
