Description

DIGITAL INNOVATION HUB on "HPC-Cloud and Cognitive Systems for Smart Manufacturing processes, Robotics and Logistics." is the Aragonese non-profit initiative that, within a framework of European cooperation (DIH), extends the strategy of Economic and Industrial Promotion of Aragon and the intelligent regional strategy of Aragon, forming the technological and innovative action of the Aragonese Innovation System Towards the digitization of the Industry. For this purpose, it has the Research Organizations, competence centers, innovative companies, and clusters, as well as the business development agencies and the competent authorities necessary to support and give shape to the Aragon Industry Strategy 4.0 (AI4.0)

Aragon DIH has been selected as a BDVA ispace with the silver label. (Big Data Value Asociation)

Additionally, and within this initiative, an Executive Commission has been created, with a reduced selection of Spanish DIHs. We’re very actively involved in this Commission, developing the national strategy for DIHs. Not links available since they’re confidential tasks.

One of the Competence Centers of the Aragon DIH (ITAINNOVA) was selected as proper organization for leading and developing the program “ACTIVA Industria 4.0”. This is a customized and specialised assessment program for evaluating the maturity of companies regarding I4.0 parameters, led by experienced consulting companies. In Aragon, 17 assessments were performed by ITAINNOVA:

The Competence Centers in charge of promoting Aragon DIH are considered “R+D+i agents” in the Aragonese RIS3 strategy. Business case: Elvesys

This use case belongs to the FORTISSIMO program, to the project named “Cloud-based multiphysics simulation for designing highly dynamic and highly accurate flow controls for microfluidic applications”

Elvesys is a small french company that provides a wide range of instruments to control microfluidic setups. www.elveflow.com

Objective and description:

Elvesys focuses on the development of Plug and Play control equipment for systems for microfluidic research. The goal of the success case was to develop a cloud application that could easily reproduce the microfluidic system prior to its construction, in order to evaluate its behavior. This allows Elvesys and their customers to examine microfluidic hardware before building or purchasing it, and also helps to select the appropriate parts according to the specific objectives of each system. In addition, the application is used to develop better flow control algorithms.

The application developed, not only describes the behavior of the complete system (ie pumps, pipes, controllers, chips) but also provides detailed information of the flow in the microfluidic target chip.

Solution and Benefits for the company:

The project developed will allow ELVESYS to sell more microfluidic systems with improved control software. The benefits obtained are:

Business case: “Club Virtual Emprender en Aragón”

In this case the focus group is no a company, but a service or program for the regional particula entrepreneurs, who form the Emprender Virtual Club in Aragón (https://www.emprenderenaragon.es/paginas/emprender-club-virtual)

Objective and description:

The Government of Aragon through the Aragonese Institute of Development (IAF), has conceived the Virtual Club Emprender in Aragon as a virtual association of entrepreneurs. It is a channel for the dissemination of knowledge of all business initiatives in Aragon, in which each emerging company has an opportunity to publish their activities, and each entrepreneur who wants to make his or her business a reality has a foothold.

Training: On this web page, the Training Plan developed by the IAF Entrepreneurs Unit is published.

Public Aids: From the Virtual Club a complete database with all the calls that are open is available. On the other hand, also other closed calls can be checked, for having them as a reference for future ones.

Showcase of companies: The corporate showcase occupies a main place in the Virtual club, where any company can show their products, services and publish their activities to the international community. Thus, anyone who searches the Internet can get some basic data to get in touch with them. In addition, if the company already has its own website, it can improve its SEO in the different search engines.

Notice Board: This announcement board shows offers of collaboration, investment among entrepreneurs, etc., or simply the announcement of a new product or service line.

Currently, approximately 3800 entrepreneurs are members of the Virtual Club Emprender in Aragón.

Analysis methodologhy focused on the identification of oportunities to implement industry 4.0 technologies in companies. The methology combines both technical and business aspects and help companies to design a route for its digital transformation with an strategical view.

ITAINNOVA has been selected by the Economics, Industry and Competitiveness Ministry as one of the advisor entities within the frame of national ACTIVA Industria 4.0 program.

Through the implementation of this methodology, the companies can:

  • Build new business models and create new businness oportunities based on the selected technologies.
  • They can add more value to its present services/products.
  • Than can answer to future strategic challenges by dominio of new key technologies, and adquire a competitive advantage.

Micro-fluidics system digitalization consists of a set of services oriented to implement the  technologies involved in Industry 4.0 concept to the design, developing, manufacturing and use of these kind of systems.

Services included in this technical offer are:

Business case: Biocurve

Biocurve is an Aragonese company that designs and manufactures high performance biomass boilers. Its patented technology allows to enjoy efficient heating with a renewable and economic fuel.

Nabladot is an engineering company with extensive experience in fluid simulation and its application to the industrial sector. To perform this, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques are used for solving fluid flow problems, heat transfer and chemical reaction.

Objective and description:

The costs of using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools are very high and, in general, unaffordable for SMEs, since they include high software licensing costs, the need for high-performance computing infrastructure and, in addition, highly skilled and specialices personnel.

The objective of this project was to allow an SME like Biocurve to access computer engineering services in the Cloud, eliminating access barriers. It has been carried out by the company Biocurve as a final user, Nabladot as a software provider and the BIFI Institute as an HPC-CLOUD technology expert in the framework of the collaboration of the European CloudFLow project.

With the solution provided, Biocurve can analyze the performance of different designs of its boilers through the use of CFD tools integrated in the BIFI infrastructure in CloudFlow. For this, Nabladot adapted CFD software for the simulation of the heat exchanger of its boilers, and developed a user-friendly interface to allow Biocurve to use the CFD tools independently.

Solution and Benefits for the company:

NablaDot adapted the CFD tools (mesh generator, Snappy HexMesh, fluid dynamics software, OpenFOAM, and ParaView post-process software) to simulate the heat exchanger of a biomass condensing boiler. All this open source software was migrated to the cloud infrastructure of the BIFI Institute within the CloudFlow project, whose computational resources were used to execute the CFD tools.

As a result, and after the necessary training provided by NablaDot, Biocurve began using CFD tools and integrating them into their design process. The time required to carry out the design of a prototype has been reduced by more than 50% and, in addition, the size of the current boiler has been reduced by more than 30%, maintaining the same features.

Given the success of the project, initially planned only to optimize a 25 kW design, the development of a new prototype of 200 kW has been undertaken in a short time, which had been a difficult approach using the traditional process.

Enganches Aragón is an SME dedicated to the manufacture and commercialization of towbars for vehicles in Spain, but with a huge international activity. Their distribution network is present in more than 50 countries around the world.

Objective and description:

Initially, the company did not have a specific strategy for the Industry 4.0 challenges, but the technological evolution led them to use digital resources for performing innovation projects in the company. Using Activa 4.0 service, the diagnosis highlighted the need to develop product innovation as the key to their business strategy, as well as the need to incorporate plans towards Digitalisation. The diagnosis identified opportunities and guidelines for their implementation. Consequently, a set of solutions have been implemented, which are described in the following point.

Solution and Benefits:

A system has been developed for performing the connectivity of the towbars and, thus, to interact with the trailer (or with the bike carrier, luggage rack, ski rack ...) and with the vehicle to guarantee its safety. In addition to towbars, this firm manufactures and markets bicycle racks, luggage racks and Tow Box holders, ski racks, picket carriers, kayaks, bars and roof chests.

From the point of view of sustainability, in addition to the control of the consumption of each machine, intelligent lighting has been developed and deployed in their products.

Regarding the digitization of the production process, now it is possible to monitor the status of orders in real time within the framework of the execution process.

To improve the customer relationships, a private area has been created on the corporate website, allowing to manage reports, invoices, the progress of projects, etc. Likewise, it si planned to provide further customer support tools.

Finally, there work in progress regarding the analysis of social network interactions and sponsorships, in order to segment customers and launch specialized promotions.
