The Smart Specialisation Platform in the European Week of Regions and Cities 2020
- 05 Oct 2020 to 22 Oct 2020
Description
The European Week of Regions and Cities (#EURegionsWeek) is the biggest annual Brussels-based event dedicated to regionalpolicy. The event has grown to become a unique communication and networking platform, bringing together regions and cities from all over Europe, including their political representatives, officials as well as experts and academics. Over the last 17 years, it has done much to promote policy learning and exchange of good practices.
The session organisers involved in this year's #EURegionsWeek were invited to a third partners' meeting on 26 June. The aim of the virtual meeting was to provide them with more specific information on the organisation of the #EURegionsWeek 2020, given the exceptional situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, the European Week of Regions and Cities will spread over three consecutive weeks in October, each dedicated to one timely topic:
- 5-9 October: Empowering Citizens,
- 12-16 October: Cohesion and cooperation,
- 19-22 October: Green Europe, in cooperation with the Green Week.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the related health and safety measures, the majority of the 500 sessions will be in fully digital format. Among the exceptions are key events and workshops requiring interpretation, which are going to be organized in a hybrid format (online with a limited physical presence). Some events such as exhibitions and regional tastings can be either digital or physical.
The Smart Specialisation Platform will be presenting a wide range of topics, including addressing Covid-19 challenges, Digital Innovation Hubs & S3 bringing forward digital transformation, education and training institutions bringing research and innovation closer to citizens and communities, Smart Specialisation for SDGs, models for green synergies and much more.
