On Friday, 24 September 2021, the Strategic Planning Office (SPO) of the Government of Kosovo organized an online meeting to discuss the results of a quantitative mapping study for the draft of the national Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3).

The study explored the economic, innovative and scientific potential of the territory, and it was conducted by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) within the framework of the project Support to Smart Specialisation in Neighbourhood and Enlargement Region. The meeting included the participation of members from the S3 coordination team, the JRC as well as international expert Professor Hugo Hollanders from the University of Maastricht who joined the debate as the main author of the study to cover the main findings of the analysis.

The central purpose of this initiative was to encourage a discussion that facilitates the selection of a pool of preliminary priority economic areas from the ones previously produced in the quantitative report with the aim of conducting further analysis during the next qualitative phase. The options are now being assessed and validated under internal consultation and the SPO will be sharing such results and next steps in a timely manner.
