At this high-level conference, the joint initiative of the Directorates-General for Regional and Urban Policy, Energy, and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) was launched in order to set up a platform of smart specialisation on energy and brought together representatives from EU institutions, Member States and their regions, energy experts and stakeholders to reflect on and discuss the relevance of Smart Specialisation in the energy sector.

This high-level conference:

 •       Brought together representatives from EU institutions, Member States and their regions, energy experts and stakeholders to reflect on and discuss the relevance of Smart Specialisation in the energy sector.
 •       Launched the European Smart Specialisation Platform on Energy, an enabling tool for regions to coordinate, rationalise and plan their respective energy strategies.
 •       Developed a shared vision on knowledge-based energy policy development in regions.
 •       Set up a strategic agenda of collaborative work in the frame of the Smart Specialisation Platform which will foster the identification and deployment of innovative practices.
 •       Gave participants the opportunity to discuss and reflect on effective strategies and concrete bottom-up cooperation opportunities to accelerate the development and deployment of energy technologies for sustainable growth in regions.

The main event held in Brussels (BE) was accompanied by regional parallel events that took place in Glasgow, Scotland (UK) and Seville, Andalucia (ES).
