Description

"TAIEX Workshop on Smart Specialisation Strategy and S3 Design learning - Role and Instruments for Cooperation between Business, Research and Authorities" was organised in Skopje, North Macedonia, on February 12-13, 2019. The event was organised with the support of the TAIEX (Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument of the European Commission) instrument, co-organised by the S3 Team of North Macedonia and supported by the Joint Research Centre.

The workshop was opened by the Deputy Minister for Education and Science of North Macedonia, Mr. Petar Atanasov, who fully supported the initiative of designing national smart specialisation strategy with the expert support of the JRC. During the event, the experts gave presentations on the entire smart specialisation process based on the JRC framework for EU enlargement and neighbourhood countries, with particular focus on the mapping of economic, innovative and scientific potential and the entrepreneurial discovery process, as the country prepares for carrying out these two phases. The S3 Team of North Macedonia informed participants on the current state of the process highlighting main achievements and challenges.

North Macedonia launched the Smart Specialisation process in March 2018 with the support of the JRC. The country has established the S3 working group which coordinates all activities under the abovementioned framework. At the event, the provisional roadmap for the remaining stages has been agreed and it is expected that the final strategy document will be prepared in 2020.
