Priority Name Description
Sustainable Mobility - Collective Transportation The Capital Region of Denmark aspires to promote collective transport as the primary mode of transport and expand the uptake of collective transport among the citizens of the region. Digitalization will pave the way for effective and personalized collective transport through initiatives such as mobility as a service (MaaS) and better traffic information. Transregional cooperation on sustainable mobility is already in place, with Capital Region working in partnerships with other Northern European actors, e.g. through the STRING-network.
Climate Change Adaption Climate change poses a threat to local communities within the region. Changing weather conditions, rising sea levels, and increased precipitation are some of the factors that are likely to affect communities in the area. The Capital Region of Denmark wants to engage in sustainable adaption to shifting climate patterns, focusing especially on coastal embankment and storm surges in the region.
Education: STEM-competencies, vocational training and international talent The Capital Region wants to increase STEM-competencies among its citizen. It is necessary to advance these qualifications in order to meet the demands of technological change and digitalization. In addition to this, increasing the level of vocational training is a priority issue in the plan for regional development. Finally, the Capital Region wants to extend its international network in order to attract more international talent, which will further the region’s status as a competitive metropolitan area worldwide.
Sustainable Water Supply Management Most of the region’s drinking water is pumped from the soil and as such underground pollution is a serious threat to public health. This issue of soil-cleansing needs to be tackled in an innovative and sustainable manner and necessitates cooperation between different stakeholders and local as well as international partners.
Healthy living Advancing public health for citizens to promote healthy, active and high-quality living as an easy choice is a top priority for the Capital Region. As part of its smart specialisation strategy, the Capital Region wants to accelerate research and innovation in the health sector, creating digital solutions for e.g. personalized at-home health assessments. Other key areas of interest in this sector are personalized medicine, health data, genetic analysis, artificial intelligence, new technologies and other key areas. In order to fully commit to these ambitions, all relevant stakeholders need to be included and new partnerships instigated.
Circular Economy – Recycling waste materials The Capital Region has high ambitions for furthering the energy transition and the circular economy. The Capital Region plans to launch initiatives that will accelerate developments in the waste sector and establishing a solid market for secondary raw materials from building waste, such as bricks and asphalt.
Green Energy Transition The Green energy transition is a high-priority policy agenda for the Capital Region of Denmark. The region is already engaged in international and transregional cooperation on green energy promotion, such as the Northern European STRING network and Danish-Swedish collaboration in Greater Copenhagen such as CPH Electric. The Capital Region is dedicated to meet the national political agenda of reducing carbon emissions by 70% in 2030.
