This smart specialisation seminar was organised in Brno for participants from both the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The seminar was aimed at discussing the conditions for the fulfilment of the ex-ante conditionality "innovation strategy for smart specialisation" foreseen within the proposal of SF regulations for the programming period 2014-2020.
Many of the promising ideas generated during the Entrepreneurial Discovery Process (EDP) focus groups were further pursued in line with possible funding sources in the first Project Development Lab (PDL). This workshop event took place in Komotini on 6-7 May 2015.

The workshop on the value chain of non-metallic minerals was based on the same approach that was followed for organising three similar events in the past (wine, dairy/meat products, tourism). The event gave the opportunity to the participants (representing all strands of the triple helix) to be exposed on key innovations in the value chain of the selected sectors at the national and European level and at the same time to stimulate idea generation for business development.

Together with the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (REMTh), JRC-IPTS is currently carrying out a European Parliament Preparatory Action. This project has two main aims: to provide "hands-on" support to the implementation of the RIS3 in REMTh, a region heavily hit by the crisis, and to generate lessons for other convergence regions in Greece and Europe.

JRC-IPTS, together with the Managing Authority of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (REMTh) organised the first focus group. This event focused on the wine sector and on selected activities which contribute to its future development.
The S2E launching conference offered a first opportunity to identify key elements for building successful synergies and gave a useful insight into how synergies could be achieved in practice.
