The event aims at reaching a shared vision on knowledge-based energy policy priorities in Member States and regions and will discuss a strategic agenda for design and implementation of Smart Specialisation Strategies in the field of energy. In the recent years Smart Specialisation Strategies for Research and Innovation (RIS3) have been developed mostly at across the EU as a key component of regional development policy. Furthermore, the Smart Specialisation (S3) concept has been recognised as a useful framework for research and innovation beyond the EU and lately in particular in the EU Enlargement and Neighbourhood policies fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the countries addressed by these policies.
The triple-helix conference on bio-based economy "Supporting the development of bio-based economy partnerships in the Danube Region through a triple-helix approach" is one of the major events of the Danube-INCO.NET project. Its main objective is to support the university-business-government cooperation (triple-helix model) to enhance the establishment and development of bio-based economy partnerships in the target countries, tackling societal challenges in the field of food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, water research, bio-based economy and bio-energy.
The event will showcase specific progress of Smart Specialisation in the area of energy. Particular focus is given to "implementation" and "collaborative frameworks". Good examples in key thematic applications (e.g. Energy efficiency, heating and cooling, sustainable construction, renewables and advanced manufacturing will be presented.
This DG REGIO High-Level Event will highlight the key role of regions in developing new growth dynamics for Europe, based on bottom-up entrepreneurship and innovation. It will mark the mobilisation of this potential for transformation in priority areas, e.g. energy transition, digital growth, circular economy, agro-food or industrial modernisation. Smart specialisation strategies can leverage numerous new growth opportunities for all regions when aligning their business driven smart specialisation investments in new European value chains.
