The construction sector represents more than 40% of energy consumption in Europe. Many European regions have launched interesting initiatives in this field, not only aware of its implications in the energy sector, but also those associated to the environment and the generation of quality employment.

Paving the way for joint actions in the Danube Region: Second Stakeholders Workshop of Danube-INCO.NET30/10/2015 30/10/2015
This workshop was held in the frame of the 4th Annual Forum of the EUSDR taking place this year in Ulm. It aimed at providing an opportunity to learn about their activities, facilitating discussion on the harmonization of their activities or possible joint actions.
The Joint Research Centre of the European Commission has organised in Ulm (DE) the annual event on Scientific Support to the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. The JRC Annual Event 2015 took stock of the continuing scientific support activities for the Danube region and focused on the JRC expertise that supports the European Commission priorities of boosting jobs and growth, building a European Energy Union and supporting the digital single market through smart specialisation in the Danube region.
This workshop was part of the 2015 Open Days programme and included participants from policy making, research and industry. Four S3P members will present their plans for specialising in Blue Growth: The Canary Islands (ES), Nordland (NO), Portugal and Ireland!
The thematic University-Business Forum took place in Vilnius and Kaunas, Lithuania. It brought together around 200 high-level representatives from higher education, business as well as national, regional and local authorities from Europe and beyond. There was no registration fee for the Forum.
The motto of the EXPO 2015:" Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life" is a global appeal to reflect upon current issues of nutrition, food production, management and distribution, as well as global and regional governance of food. Participating countries, organisations and institutions will share their experience, demonstrate and confront their approaches as well as discuss potential future scenarios and development. The European Union, a key player on international scale, shared results of its work done over the last 50 years.

The S3 Platform together with the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy organised the Danube smart specialisation (S3) workshop “Gathering opportunities around RIS3 priorities” in Vienna, Austria. The workshop aimed at identifying concrete initiatives for transnational cooperation around some common smart specialisation priorities in the Danube region. The workshop provided the arena to explore collaboration opportunities in ICT, health, energy and sustainable innovations.
The conference presented the results of the awareness campaign and the steps ahead of the EU initiative on the Smart use of ICT and the integration of SMEs in global industrial value chains.
