This event is framed within activities of the Smart Specialisation Platform on Energy (S3PEnergy) and is oriented to facilitate cooperation among regions including smart grids as priority of smart specialisation.
The event aims at reaching a shared vision on knowledge-based energy policy priorities in Member States and regions and will discuss a strategic agenda for design and implementation of Smart Specialisation Strategies in the field of energy. This event is also an effort to promote awareness and strategic cooperation between European regions aimed at increasing their capacity for innovation and the development of a strategic market for Europe.
The European Commission will present its FOOD 2030 research and innovation policy stocktaking exercise to be followed by four prospective discussion panels, each exploring how R&I policy should contribute to shaping tomorrow's sustainable food systems, with respect to healthy and sustainable diets, climate resilience and circularity of food systems, user-centric innovation, new business models and investment.

In the recent years Smart Specialisation Strategies for Research and Innovation (RIS3) have been developed mostly at across the EU as a key component of regional development policy. Furthermore, the Smart Specialisation (S3) concept has been recognised as a useful framework for research and innovation beyond the EU and lately in particular in the EU Enlargement and Neighbourhood policies fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the countries addressed by these policies.
The triple-helix conference on bio-based economy "Supporting the development of bio-based economy partnerships in the Danube Region through a triple-helix approach" is one of the major events of the Danube-INCO.NET project. Its main objective is to support the university-business-government cooperation (triple-helix model) to enhance the establishment and development of bio-based economy partnerships in the target countries, tackling societal challenges in the field of food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, water research, bio-based economy and bio-energy.
This joint event organised by the Technology Region Karlsruhe and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) discussed how regions and local communities could contribute to reaching ambitious and sustainable greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in the energy sector. The European Commission Joint Research Centre Institute for Energy and Transport is organizing a workshop on best practices, innovation and pilot projects in smart grid development in the Mediterranean region. This workshop relates to the activities of the smart specialization platform for energy and is aimed at building synergies among the regions of the Mediterranean Sea to exchange experiences and best practice in the field of smart grid.
The event will showcase specific progress of Smart Specialisation in the area of energy. Particular focus is given to "implementation" and "collaborative frameworks". Good examples in key thematic applications (e.g. Energy efficiency, heating and cooling, sustainable construction, renewables and advanced manufacturing will be presented.
