E-Talks Webinar Series - Smart Specialisation for Sustainable Development Goals

News article |

Since the Joint Research Centre (JRC) started reflecting on the contribution of Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3) to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) back in 2018, a consolidated reflection and methodologies such as S3 for SDGs or S4 (Smart Specialisation Strategies for Sustainability) have been developed in cooperation with experts and practitioners. Sustainable development is a core principle of the Treaty on European Union and a priority objective for the Union's internal and external policies, and this makes it a fundamental element to consider for JRC activities planning.

Following this line, the E-Talks Webinar Series initiative was created with the aim of summarizing and exploring the theoretical background as well as the methodological and practical applications of including sustainability dimension in the traditional S3 concept. The series of events featuring different theoretical and applied methodological developments will take place the days of 4 October, 25 October, 9 November, 23 November and 3 December of 2021. It is now open for registration.

Each meeting will be a 2-hour long webinar dedicated to a specific publication or train of thought, presented by the authors and allowing for a dynamic discussion within academics, practitioners and everyone interested in the subjects covered. Mikel Landabaso, Director for Growth and Innovation, (JRC), European Commission will be opening the series on 4 October. Xabier Goenaga, Head of Unit, (JRC), European Commission and Alessandro Rainoldi, Head of Unit, (JRC), European Commission are scheduled to deliver the closing remarks.
