Description
Created in 2005, Systematic Paris-Region innovation and technology cluster brings together and promotes an ecosystem of excellence in software and digital technologies with over 800 members. Systematic connects stakeholders and boosts digital projects through collaborative innovation, SME development, business sourcing, across a range of strategic sectors: energy, telecoms, healthcare, transport, information systems, factory of the future, digital city and security. The cluster promotes its members, region and innovation projects, with the aim of raising their profile and enhancing the attractiveness of the Paris-Region area and ecosystem.
The cluster and its projects are supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the French State (Direccte) and Paris Region Council.
Systematic Paris Region has faciliated the development of 534 R&D projects representing a global R&D support of 2.78 billion€ and an aggregated public effort from the State, its agencies, the National Research Agency, EUREKA, BPI France, local authorities and the ERDF representing more thant 1,01 billion€.
Créé en 2005 et s’inscrivant dans une démarche d’Open Innovation, Systematic Paris-Region, pôle de compétitivité mondial, rassemble et anime un écosystème d’excellence de plus de 800 membres. Systematic connecte les acteurs du logiciel, du numérique et de l’industrie, accélère les projets numériques par l’innovation collaborative, le développement des PME, la mise en relation et le sourcing business et ce, sur les secteurs d’avenir : énergie, télécoms, santé, transports, systèmes d’information, usine du futur, ville numérique, sécurité. Le Pôle a également pour mission, de promouvoir ses acteurs, son territoire, ses projets d’innovation et ceci dans le but d’accroitre sa notoriété et développer l’attractivité du territoire.
L’action de Systematic Paris-Region est soutenue par le Fonds européen de développement régional (FEDER), la Direccte et la Région Île-de-France notamment. Par le biais de neuf Groupes Thématiques, Systematic Paris-Region manage toute une communauté et déploie son expertise pour encourager l’innovation collaborative. A ce jour, Systematic Paris-Region a permis le développement d’environ 534 projets de R&D représentant un effort de R&D global de plus de 2.78 milliards d’euros et un soutien cumulé de près de 1,01 milliard d’euros provenant de l’Etat, des agences ANR, EUREKA, FEDER, bpifrance et des collectivités territoriales.
Au-delà de la R&D collaborative, Systematic Paris-Region se fixe pour mission de développer un écosystème de croissance favorable au développement des PME en vue de leur passage en « entreprises de taille intermédiaire » (ETI). Cet écosystème rassemble plus de 1100 PME représentant plus de 35 000 emplois dans les secteurs du Logiciel, des Systèmes, de l’Optique et de l’Electronique.
En matière d’attractivité, Systematic Paris-Region s’engage à promouvoir le territoire, le Pôle, la filière et ses acteurs à l’étranger afin d’attirer compétences et entreprises, d’encourager et soutenir les actions exportatrices des PME membres et d’insérer le Pôle et ses acteurs dans la dynamique européenne. Actuellement, le Pôle dispose de Hubs à l’étranger : en Chine, aux Etats-Unis, en Méditerranée et en Inde.

Integration in the Paris Region Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3) elaborated with inputs from Systematic leading to the selection of five innovation domains:
- Complex systems and software engineering;
- Digital creation;
- Smart and carbon-free vehicles;
- Eco-building and environmental-oriented neighbourhood;
- Medical devices.
The five domains are highlighted as priorities in the 2014-2020 ERDF OP Actions related to innovation. Systematic innovation and technology cluster leads the “Complex systems and software engineering” S3 innovation domain and as such is funded by both the Regional Council as well as by the ERDF to implement this programme under the 2014-2020 ERDF Operational Programme.
Since 2006, Systematic Paris-Region has cooperated in 19 EU funded projects. (Artemis/Ecsel, Cosme, EIT Digital, FP7/H2020, and Interreg NWE)
Systematic Paris-Region coordinated from 2013-16 Be Wiser (Building Enterprises – Wireless and Internet Security in European Regions), an FP7 (Region of Knowledge) funded project which aimed at examining the organisation and technical research challenges in some of Europe’s best known RTD regions. The technology focus was on wireless Internet security, while the organisational challenge was to more effectively utilise Triple Helix clusters in regional innovation processes. Smart cyber-physical systems (CPS) are considered to be the next revolution in ICT with lots of game-changing business potential for integrated services and products.
Mastering the engineering of complex and trustworthy CPS is key to implementing CPS-based business models. Current CPS, however, are often engineered and maintained at very high cost and sometimes with unknown risks, and recent technological progress from R&D projects is not readily available to most innovators.
The CPS Engineering Labs (CPSE Labs) therefore equips innovators - businesses, researchers, and students - with CPS engineering infrastructure, knowledge, and tools for realizing novel CPS-based products and services, with the explicit goal of expediting and accelerating the realization of smart CPS.
The CPSE Labs build upon existing R&D centres - in Madrid, Munich, Oldenburg, Newcastle, Stockholm, and Toulouse - and turn these already excellent regional clusters into world-class hotspots for CPS engineering.
The design centers develop and maintain a common strategic innovation agenda for building up novel and complete CPS value chains. Based on this strategy the CPSE Labs build up and maintain a portfolio of added-value experiments.
Experiments are focused and fast-track and they have a clear innovation objective; they build upon results and achievements from large-scale national and European projects on the rigorous design of embedded systems and CPS. Experience gained from experiments, validation results, and best practices, cross-cutting engineering principles that underpin the integration of cyber and physical elements of CPS are continuously integrated and disseminated by the CPSE Labs.
The CPSE Labs' marketplace provides an open forum for sharing platforms, architectures, and software tools for the engineering of dependable and trustworthy CPS. The ultimate goal is to establish a CPS engineering framework which sets a world-wide standard.

GateOne - Innovation Service for European Smartization by SMEsGateOne - Innovation Service for European Smartization by SMEs
GateOne’s mission is to accelerate smart systems adoption by European SMEs in facilitating their access to advanced technologies for the development of innovative and smart solutions. GateOne offers Innovation as a Service to the benefit of SMEs in structuring a complete and adapted innovation chain to contribute to the Smartization of Europe. The concept is based on an innovative and pragmatic approach to cross the valley of death. Our Innovation Action is designed to enter efficiently into a new management paradigm in implementing critical size mechanisms. We will work on a unique Pan European portfolio of smart systems technologies to make them attractive and available for evaluation by a large panel of European SMEs. 20% of the portfolio will be related to bioelectronics technologies. In implementing the New Product Introduction process, our service will provide a collaboration framework between SMEs and RTOs, to progress from Lab to Market. From a complementary smart systems technologies portfolio we will work on 50 small scale projects to deliver innovation concept in the form of demonstrators. They will be produced at the only condition that an SME expresses interest and engages to enter into a testing phase. Our innovation service will allow low risk evaluation conditions. We will introduce “product concept” designed on a business case to meet SMEs expectations. We will structure, an adapted innovation chain, while validating the cost efficient manufacturability of the solution. A broad diffusion will make GateOne a European entry point of state-of-the-art technology for smart systems.Inherited from COWIN CSA success and commitment of RTOs to further apply and develop the COWIN approach, GateOne will lead to a major breakthrough for European competitiveness in engaging SMEs in the smartization wave. The support of the European Commission will validate the concept and prepare its sustainability with RTOs, industrials and private investors support. -

TEchnology TRAnsfer via Multinational Application eXperimentsTEchnology TRAnsfer via Multinational Application eXperiments
The major objective of TETRAMAX is to provide an implementation of the European “Smart Anything Everywhere (SAE)” initiative in the domain of customized low energy computing (CLEC) for CPS and the IoT. The project builds on three major activity lines: (1) Stimulating, organizing, co-funding, and evaluating different types of cross-border Application Experiments, providing “EU added value” via innovative CLEC technologies to first-time users and broad markets in European ICT-related industries, (2) Building and leveraging a new European CLEC competence center network, offering technology brokerage, one-stop shop assistance and CLEC training to SMEs and mid-caps, and with a clear evolution path towards new regional digital innovation hubs where needed, and (3) Paving the way towards self-sustainability based on pragmatic and customized long-term business plans. The project impact will be measured based on well-defined, goal-oriented performance indicators. The immediate ambition of TETRAMAX within its duration is to support 50+ industry clients and 3rd parties in the entire EU with innovative technologies, leading to an estimated revenue increase of 25 Mio. € based on 50+ new or improved CLEC-based products, 10+ entirely new businesses/SMEs initiated, as well as 30+ new permanent jobs and significant cost and energy savings in product manufacturing. Moreover, in the long term, TETRAMAX will be the trailblazer towards a reinforced, profitable, and sustainable ecosystem infrastructure, providing CLEC competence, services and a continuous innovation stream at European scale, yet with strong regional presence as preferred by SMEs. -
ACTPHAST 4.0
ACceleraTing PHotonics innovAtion for SME’s: a one STop-shop-incubatorACceleraTing PHotonics innovAtion for SME’s: a one STop-shop-incubator
ACTPHAST 4.0 (ACceleraTing PHotonics innovAtion for SMEs: a one STop-shop-incubator) is a unique photonics innovation incubator for Europe which is perfectly aligned with the needs of SMEs in overcoming the challenges and seizing the opportunities afforded by the new digital revolution of Industry 4.0 in which photonics technologies are a key enabler. ACTPHAST 4.0 will directly support the broader and faster take-up of photonics by a critical mass of SMEs by providing action-oriented solutions on two complementary levels, driven by the business needs of the companies: (i) ready-made access to rapid prototyping services using the top photonics technologies and expert know-how of Europe’s leading photonics competence centers covering the entire integrated supply chain of photonics technology platform capabilities to make deep interventions in the SMEs’ new product development through focused short-duration co-innovation projects; combined with (ii) professional coaching on the technical, business and financial aspects of the innovation process, from concept feasibility through to a mass-manufacturable marketable product. ACTPHAST 4.0 is designed to ensure that all of Europe’s SMEs, in particular first users and early adopters across a wide range of end user industries, have open access to the incubator for timely, efficient and cost-effective photonics innovation support. As a result, ACTPHAST 4.0 expects to boost photonics innovation in Europe at a scale and with a leveraging factor never seen before, delivering a substantial increase in the revenues, venture capital and jobs across all of the supported companies. In addition, through its tight links with the EU pilot lines, as well as its collaboration with smart “first mover” regions across the EU on best practices for co-funding on SME innovation, ACTPHAST 4.0 will act as a game-changer in revitalizing European manufacturing and as one of the vital catalysts to the successful digitization of European industry. -

One-Stop-Shop Open Access to Photonics Innovation Support for a Digital EuropeOne-Stop-Shop Open Access to Photonics Innovation Support for a Digital Europe
PhotonHub Europe will establish a single pan-EU Photonics Innovation Hub which integrates the best-in-class photonics technologies, facilities, expertise and experience of 53 partners from all over Europe, including the coordinators of EU pilot lines and local photonics hubs representing 18 regions, as a one-stop-shop solution offering a comprehensive range of supports to industry for the accelerated uptake and deployment of photonics. PhotonHub will provide European companies, in particular “non-photonics” SMEs and mid-caps that are first users and early adopters of photonics, with open access and guided orienteering to the following key support services: training and upskilling opportunities within PhotonHub’s Demo and Experience Centres throughout Europe and enhanced by digital tools for online learning; “test before invest” innovation support capabilities to engage with companies on highly collaborative Innovation Projects aimed at TRL acceleration from prototyping (TRL3-4) to upscaling (TRL5-6) to manufacturing (TRL7-8), and complemented by targeted business and IP advisory supports; and support to find investment through investment-readiness coaching and investor match-making organised in collaboration with major regional and European venture fora and deep tech Investor Days. PhotonHub will uniquely support cross-border innovation activities of European companies, while simultaneously working closely with the local photonics hubs to develop and roll out best practices of the “lighthouse” regions for ongoing regional financial support of SME innovation activities and to support the creation of new innovation hubs covering most regions of Europe. Finally, PhotonHub will fine-tune and implement its business plan for long-term sustainability in the form of the PhotonHub Europe Association as a durable entity which is deeply rooted within the wider ecosystem of local, regional and EU-DIHs for maximum leverage and impact on European competitiveness and sovereignty.
