Artificial Intelligence (AI), Agri-food, Advanced Digital Skills, Digital Transformation and Interoperability
The purpose of #DigiAgriFood is to contribute decisively to the development and modernization of the Agri-Food Sector of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, thus gradually leading to the required convergence of the Region with the average of the EU.
By participating in the network, the hub will be able to export its specialized know-how to interested parties outside its area of operation, but also to other hubs and at the same time to support its own local customers in subjects outside its know-how by communicating with other hubs of the network that specialize in the requested subject at national and / or European level. At the same time, synergies will be developed with the neighboring Regions in Greece and Bulgaria with which there is great similarity in the composition of the Business Structure & Employment.
#DigiAgriFood Hub focuses on the thematic / sectoral area of the agri-food value chain, recognizing on one hand the top importance of this sector in the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in terms of GDP and employment rate, on the other hand, the very limited competitiveness of companies operating in this field, which in large part is due to the lack of integration of innovative digital technologies and tools in the production process. In addition, as documented in the next section, the Hub specializes in i) Artificial Intelligence technologies, ii) Advanced Digital Skills, and iii) Digital Transformation and Interoperability.
The proposed E.D.I.H. will connect the Triple Propeller Links of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, thus constituting the main mechanism of technology transfer, research and development in the Agri-Food Sector. Its activities are harmoniously integrated in the framework of the regional and national Strategy of Smart Specialization, as they contribute to the critical Sector of Agri-food and to its complete modernization in the geographical reference area. In addition, the above actions undoubtedly aim at improving the competitive position of Agri-food companies, the sustainable management of resources, the requirements of the EU Circular Economy Directive and the priorities of the European Green Deal.
