Service Examples

WeatherSafe emerged from a Satellite Applications Catapult Hackathon and is now launching a range of agricultural data products for the coffee market in Rwanda, developing easily accessible apps for small farmers up to importers and government departments. The company is currently engaged in fundraising activities to support the next stage of business development. Over the next five years the company plans to expand its coverage to other coffee-growing countries in Africa and Latin America, and to develop apps targeted at producers of similar crops.

• WeatherSafe apps provide remote management information and intelligence to help stakeholders across the agricultural supply chain.

• The apps are powered by a data platform that integrates high resolution satellite data with hyper-local weather forecasts, agronomic models and best practice farm modelling.

• WeatherSafe was the Catapult Hackathon winner in 2012, awarded funding from Innovate UK and European Space Agency (ESA) in 2013, and is a finalist in Mass Challenge UK in 2015.


Deimos Space UK is a subsidiary of Spanish firm Elecnor Deimos, itself part of the large industrial group Elecnor. Launched in 2013, its business is split between satellite applications and Space systems engineering, which encompasses flight systems, ground segment and global navigation satellite systems (GNSS).

• Supported in establishing its UK business by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), the Satellite Applications Catapult and the UK Space Agency.

• Has a broad research and development portfolio in diverse satellite applications markets including precision farming, smart cities and location-based services for onshore and offshore applications.

• Working on commercial contracts and projects funded by the UK Space Agency, Innovate UK and the European Space Agency, both within and outside Europe.


Based in Scotland, Stevenson Astrosat prides itself on proving that ‘Any problem has a Space solution’. Since its formation in 2012, it has developed a stream of award winning platforms based on Earth observation and radar satellite data for monitoring and measuring a diverse range of issues, as well as offering consultancy services. It is now looking forward to bring to fruition a major venture in the disaster recovery arena as well as moving into Space hardware.
