Description

Description

• The Electrum Foundation in Kista Sciene City realized the disruptive effect of digitization and decided to adapt and develop the collaboration by opening up and evolve from triple helix to quadruple helix by adding the individual/citizen/end-user. The result is an open testbed and co-creation arena where the possibilities of digitization can be developed, tested and show cased in an urban environment. • Fully equipped testbed with wired and wireless technologies - 5G, 4G, 3G, 2G, WiFI, 6LoWPAN, LoRa WAN, fiber - digital platforms for innovation – Bluemix, City Digital Platform, Urban Drone Platform, MediaSense - mentorspace, events, networks, projects, workshops, seminars. • Urban ICT Arena works like a huge potluck where everyone contributes with what they have and share it with the community. Together we form a great digital smorgasboard (buffe) where you can meet new partners, try new technologies and develop the future together. • A Project Owner can come with a Founding and Supporting partner and run a project free of charge. A project owner who comes alone must pay an administrative fee of 2 000 Euro per twelve months. • A project in Urban ICT Arena must be able to show how it contributes to one or more of our three overall aims; Sustainable cities, Secure future jobs, Strengthen innovation in the region. The project has to relate to the eight digital sustainable goals and give something suitable from the project to the community. (what need was solved)? • Urban ICT Arena can help to write project plan, give access IT Infrastructure provider of choice and relevant networks and also organize workshops.

Link to national or regional initiatives for digitising industry

Service Examples

Fiber infrastructure support

• The fiber company of Stockholm, Stokab, needed to understand how the fiber infrastructure had to be deployed for IoT and 5G. So they decided to do this in the testbed in order to provide this service and in the same time understand how to do this in large scale.
• Together with the Traffic Department of Stockholm and procured entrepreneurs the project led to a sustainable and scalable structure for deploying fiber in the whole city. As a result of the project the city departments has become a better at ordering and the entrepreneurs better at delivering sufficiently and cost effective.
The project has led to a better preparation for deployment of IoT and 5G.

Promote Urban ICT Arena

• By developing a 5G connected bike – the #NotBoring5GBike – through the method #NotBoring and developing it together with Ericsson and Kista Mentorspace we also managed to produce and contribute with an infrastructure in the testbed.
• A startup developed a security service for bicyclists with the NotBoring5GBik using GPS through the 5G research net in Kista provided by Ericsson.

Networking and workshops organising

Smart and connected archives - the Stockholm Archives where developing a new archive and wanted it to be smart and connected in according to the Digital Strategy - Smart and Connected City of the City of Stockhom.
• By arranging a workshop mixing small and large companies, academia and representatives from public sector on a national, regional and local level we managed to create a meeting where the following goals where reached:
• the industry, academia and public sector understood each other’s needs and conditions better.
• they all got new networks to work with.
• the insight of what digitization could contribute with grew exponentially.
• the idea of a new local open lab for the smart and connected archives was born.
