Description

The activities about the physical product development started in the nineties with services like design, simulation, material and process selection, proof of concepts and testing of physical products. Since 2015 and following the requests from the industry this service has evolved towards the development of products integrating smart functions like sensors and actuators. Sirris Hub/smart product in Liège is now the entry point for companies producing physical products who want to add smart functionalities to them and connect these products to the external world. Sirris supplies companies with designers, simulation software, equipment for the physical integration of sensors, actuators, and for the manufacturing of proof of concepts.

Depuis les années nonante Sirris developpe des produits physiques à la demande des industriels, en offrant des services dans les domaines de la conception, de la simulation, de la sélection des matériaux et des procédés de mise en oeuvre de produits physiques. Depuis 2015 et pour répondre à cette nouvelle demande des industries, le service a évolué vers le développement de produits intégrant des fonctions intelligentes avec par exemple des actuateurs et des capteurs. Sirris Hub/smart product de Liège est le point d’entrée pour les entreprises fabricant des produits physiques qui souhaitent y intégrer des fonctions smart. Sirris met à disposition des entreprises: des designers, des logiciels de simulation et des équipements pour l’intégration physique de capteurs et d’actuateurs, et pour la réalisation de proofs of concepts.

Service Examples

HYGEA case:
i) HYGEA is a public company in charge of public cleanliness while improving the quality of service rendered to the citizen. They collect, process and recycle waste and improve the living environment for nearly 500,000 people. One of the main problem is the management of the network of glass bubbles. They don’t know when the bubble is full. We developed with our partners for them a system which allow them to monitor in real time the bubble’s status.

ii) Packaging design, Prototyping, proof of concept, and vandalism tests, material choices, first sample.

iii) Thanks to the systems (sensor, LoRa antenna, packaging) we can monitor data to optimize the maintenance operations in terms of time, traffic, size trucks and fuel consumption.

Full UP case:
i) Development of a smart sensor for the detection of the fuel level in a domestic tank.
ii) Design of the packaging of the sensor, R&D to find an optimum US emission/ reception cone, selection of materials (tightness, impact resistance, ATEX protection, resistance against fuel contact), functional proofs of concepts.
iii) Measurement of the level of fuel in the tank, treatment of the information via an API (alert…), setup of a community to obtain special prices when buying fuel in large quantities.

EDEN SYNTHETICS case:
i) Development and optimization of a smart living-room greenhouse. We developed a hydroponic greenhouse for private use in apartment or private house. The goal was to provide a greenhouse able to grow vegetable in a fully automatic way. (LED controlled, automatic PH sensors, automatic alarms, airflow controlled, connected device for automatic light spectrum adaptation, …). The greenhouse has a standard footprint to be compatible with IKEA furniture.

ii) Design optimization for industrialization, numerous improvements for the Internet of Things greenhouse, Shared collaboration with experts on IT development and IT security, business development, mechatronics and materials engineers

iii) Interactive application allows to set the optimal environments for a given plant. Developmentsare based on the Raspberry pi , a small computer with very diverse capabilities. It can process sound, image, control fans or motors and acquire data from a whole range of different sensors. It is equipped with a powerful processing unit and graphic processor. The most recent version, the Raspberry Pi 3 includes a built in WiFi and Bluetooth chip
