S3 Priorities as Encoded in the "Eye@RIS3" Tool S3 Priorities as Encoded in the "Eye@RIS3" Tool

Priority Name Description
Advanced industry Everything began several hundreds of years ago, with rich ore deposits and wide expanses of forests across our whole province. Thanks to these significant natural resources, an industry has grown, and allows Dalarna county to earn approximately SEK 70 billion annually, of which a significant portion is from export. Dalarna is currently at the absolute forefront within the areas of power transmission and advanced steel industry, even from a global perspective. In order to care for the advanced industry’s unique core skills, a close partnership has been built via clusters such as High Voltage Valley, Triple Steelix and Byggdialog Dalarna. In turn, they create a network of knowledge partners such as the larger universities, regional colleges, industry research institutes, and other regional, national and international innovation environments.
Energy efficient society Energy efficient community building is an area that contributes towards strengthening Dalarna’s position. The point of departure is the requirements that the world around us places on increased energy efficiency, decreased dependence on fossil energy sources, and a long-term energy conservation system that is based on renewable energy sources. A prerequisite for such a development is new knowledge through research, innovation, and increased collaboration between players on different levels, both nationally and internationally. Together the knowledge area must participate in creating an improved innovation climate. It creates new products and services, which provide new companies and work occasions. Energy efficient community building is based on collaboration between many regional players: The Swedish Energy Competence Centre at Dalarna College, The clusters High Voltage Valley, Intelligent Transport Systems Dalarna, Byggdialog Dalarna and Triple Steelix, as well as Green Business Region at Dalarna Science Park, Energy Intelligent Dalarna at the Dalarna County Administrative Board and the Energy Office in the Dalarna region. The collaboration creates a strong player within energy efficient community development.
Innovative experience production In Dalarna, the hospitality industry is already a developed primary industry. But there is great potential here for an expansion into adjacent service industries, and a development of specialised and innovative products within experiences. With the knowledge area for the Innovative Experience Production, areas that have previously worked separately can be collected under an umbrella that creates new forms of partnerships and innovative solutions. The knowledge area consists of a number of sub areas, within which research, education, business development, and innovation work are being conducted. The common industry is the experience and hospitality industry. Meaningful regional players within the area are: the cluster Destination Dalarna, Dala Sports Academy, KKN/MFD and commerce, as well as laboratory and research environments at Dalarna University. The latter is especially developed within the areas of hospitality, commerce, media, games, sports, and health. At the same time, there are many smaller companies that can grow and develop Dalarna, if they work together more and obtain better knowledge.
Health and welfare The aging population, fewer people who wish to work within healthcare, and increased costs. These are some of the challenges that we face, which create a need to work smarter within health and welfare in Dalarna. And that means that we must benefit as much as possible from what we are already good at. Above all, the strength within the knowledge area of Health and Welfare is that regional players are used to working together. This has provided especially good results within caring for and making an effort for the county’s older citizens. The starting point is a broad skill set, combined with core skills within care, sports science, as well as a close collaboration with players within healthcare, social work, and sports. Dalarna University’s research centre Knowledge Implementation and Patient Safety (KIPS) and the Research Centre for the elderly (ReCall) are important resources. Significant laboratory environments also exist within Lugnet’s Sports Science Institute, which is run in partnership with Dala Sports Academy and, at the Dalarna County Council, LD Hjälpmedel works in outstanding research and innovation environments.
