The Joint Research Centre, through its Directorate of Growth and Innovation (Territorial Development Unit) is currently conducting a study on Smart Specialisation in Latin America. The objective of this study is to analyse how policy makers and other territorial actors are designing and implementing the S3 concept in Latin America. The study will suggest how countries and regions of Latin-America and EU can establish cooperation frameworks within Smart Specialisation areas.
On the occasion of Sustainable Energy Week 2016, the Smart Specialisation Platform on Energy (#S3PEnergy) organises the event: Smart Specialisation in Energy, how Europe's regions are implementing their priorities.

The S3 Platform is seeking stories of how smart specialisation is working in practice, showing how S3 has impacted the country / region. The stories will be used in publications and on-line media with great visibility.
The S3 Tools section of this website now features a fully interactive web-based application for the visualization and the analysis of inter-regional trade flows and the competitive position of regions in Europe.
The S3 Platform has encoded and updated the information on the S3 priorities on the basis of the advanced stages of the regional/national RIS3 strategies and ESIF Operational programmes.
The S3P website is now richer thanks to an important new interactive tool for Regional Benchmarking which helps identifying structurally similar regions across Europe with a simple click.
Network launched for regions prioritising in bioeconomy potentials: The BERST project will also provide a toolkit to help regions in their trajectory of bioeconomy development.
