This workshop showcased how different sectors of society are taking an active role in energy action. Contributions are addressed by the smart specialisation strategies at the regional level through a bottom-up participative process.
This event follows on from the previous workshop on Smart Specialisation held in 2015 in Lyon and takes a closer look at maritime and port applications, with a number of sessions centred around the issue of hydrogen and fuel cell applications for boats/ships, logistics and stationary applications, as well as some other aspects including safety and regulations and funding mechanisms.
The 8th Annual Forum of the EUSBSR will held on 13 - 14 June, 2017 in Berlin. The theme of the 8th Annual Forum is connectivity which highlights the necessity to intensify contacts throughout the Baltic Sea Region including its neighbouring regions.

The second meeting of the working-group on RIS3 monitoring in lagging regions brought forward the discussion started in February. It looked into some technical aspects of monitoring (such as for instance, data collection methods and target setting), as well as providing avenues for sharing good practices among regions.
In the framework of the Danube-INCO.net project, the Smart Specialisation Platform of the JRC together with the Academy of Sciences of Moldova organised this S3 launch event to broaden the knowledge on the S3 concept, raise awareness of the pilot project and kick-start smart specialisation in the Republic of Moldova.
This Thematic Seminar on energy-related Research and Innovation (R&I) aims to raise awareness and foster exchange of information and best practice between the European Commission and the EU regions as well as among the regions themselves. The participants will be updated on the state-of-play on energy R&I policy developments. The recent developments of the Energy Package of the Union as well as of the Strategic Energy Technology (SET)-Plan and their implications for regions and cities will be presented.
Synergies: Sustainable Growth in Marine and Maritime Sectors of Slovenia in the Northern Adriatic - Bluemed meeting on macro-regional level21/03/2017 22/03/2017
In the context of the Bluemed initiative the Ministry of Education Science and Sport (MIZŠ) and the Marine Biology Station of the National Institute of Biology (NIB MBP) of Slovenia, together with the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU), the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the European Academies' Science Advisory Council (EASAC), organize an event aimed at creating synergies between different European, regional and national policies and instruments in the field of marine and coastal areas, as well as to present the JRC-EASAC report "Marine sustainability in an age of changing oceans and seas".
The objective of this event is twofold: first, it will allow presenting the main findings of the research study: "Smart Specialisation in Latin America" which has been conducted to analyse how policy makers and other territorial actors in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Chile and Argentina are designing and implementing the Smart Specialisation concept. Second, it will serve as an opportunity to establish active synergies between practitioners of smart specialisation in the European Union and Latin America.
