On 21 February 2017, the North-West region of Romania will organize, with JRC participation, an EDP Focus Group on ICT, which is one of the region's RIS3 priority fields, as well as a sector with recognised potential, nationally and abroad. The event gathers a broad range of local stakehoders, who will analyse current trends in the ICT sector, ways to accelerate the transition from outsourcing to proprietary products, and niche sectors for further development of the sector. The participants will also focus on opportunities for the development of new, innovative products and technology transfer, supported by ERDF funds.
The first meeting of the JRC Lagging Regions Working Group on Monitoring will be held in Barcelona (at the EC Representation) on the 16th of February. During this meeting, representatives from the project's partner regions will examine their approaches to RIS3 monitoring with the support of independent experts. The outcomes of the event will provide the basis for some online learning material.

A second entrepreneurial discovery process (EDP) will be organized in the North-West Development Region of Romania. The event will take place in Oradea on the 26th of october 2016. The separate EDP focus groups on the two areas with smart specialization potential will aim at identifying potential avenues for innovation activities in the region and preparing their implementation. Exploiting synergies across EU, regional and national funds for Smart Specialisation: Health and Sustainable Manufacturing in Puglia11/07/2016 11/07/2016
The event discussed, from the perspective of the Apulia regions, how to exploit synergies between the Regional OP, the National funding opportunities and those offered by the EC. As well as presentations from national and international experts, the event included a participatory exercise with stakeholders to practically explore how to exploit synergies.
The event will showcase specific progress of Smart Specialisation in the area of energy. Particular focus is given to "implementation" and "collaborative frameworks". Good examples in key thematic applications (e.g. Energy efficiency, heating and cooling, sustainable construction, renewables and advanced manufacturing will be presented.
Kick off for HESS in North East Romania!
This DG REGIO High-Level Event will highlight the key role of regions in developing new growth dynamics for Europe, based on bottom-up entrepreneurship and innovation. It will mark the mobilisation of this potential for transformation in priority areas, e.g. energy transition, digital growth, circular economy, agro-food or industrial modernisation. Smart specialisation strategies can leverage numerous new growth opportunities for all regions when aligning their business driven smart specialisation investments in new European value chains.
