This Thematic Seminar on energy-related Research and Innovation (R&I) aims to raise awareness and foster exchange of information and best practice between the European Commission and the EU regions as well as among the regions themselves. The participants will be updated on the state-of-play on energy R&I policy developments. The recent developments of the Energy Package of the Union as well as of the Strategic Energy Technology (SET)-Plan and their implications for regions and cities will be presented.

In the context of the Bluemed initiative the Ministry of Education Science and Sport (MIZŠ) and the Marine Biology Station of the National Institute of Biology (NIB MBP) of Slovenia, together with the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU), the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the European Academies' Science Advisory Council (EASAC), organize an event aimed at creating synergies between different European, regional and national policies and instruments in the field of marine and coastal areas, as well as to present the JRC-EASAC report "Marine sustainability in an age of changing oceans and seas".
The objective of this event is twofold: first, it will allow presenting the main findings of the research study: "Smart Specialisation in Latin America" which has been conducted to analyse how policy makers and other territorial actors in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Chile and Argentina are designing and implementing the Smart Specialisation concept. Second, it will serve as an opportunity to establish active synergies between practitioners of smart specialisation in the European Union and Latin America.

The conference will take place on 1-2 December 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel with a European cluster matchmaking pre-event on 30 November 2016.
The objective of the visit was to learn from the experiences on the Smart Specialisation Concept and its implementation in the EU Member States/Regions and Chile.
This event is framed within activities of the Smart Specialisation Platform on Energy (S3PEnergy) and is oriented to facilitate cooperation among regions including smart grids as priority of smart specialisation.
Bratislava Bio-Economy Conference will be held on 17 October 2016 in Bratislava, Slovakia. This high level European meeting is organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and National Agriculture and Food Centre and by the European Commission. The conference is a part of the European Bioeconomy Strategy and Action Plan, and serves as an important input to the future orientation of the European Bioeconomy Strategy.
The event aims at reaching a shared vision on knowledge-based energy policy priorities in Member States and regions and will discuss a strategic agenda for design and implementation of Smart Specialisation Strategies in the field of energy. This event is also an effort to promote awareness and strategic cooperation between European regions aimed at increasing their capacity for innovation and the development of a strategic market for Europe.
The European Commission will present its FOOD 2030 research and innovation policy stocktaking exercise to be followed by four prospective discussion panels, each exploring how R&I policy should contribute to shaping tomorrow's sustainable food systems, with respect to healthy and sustainable diets, climate resilience and circularity of food systems, user-centric innovation, new business models and investment.
