In the recent years Smart Specialisation Strategies for Research and Innovation (RIS3) have been developed mostly at across the EU as a key component of regional development policy. Furthermore, the Smart Specialisation (S3) concept has been recognised as a useful framework for research and innovation beyond the EU and lately in particular in the EU Enlargement and Neighbourhood policies fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the countries addressed by these policies.
The triple-helix conference on bio-based economy "Supporting the development of bio-based economy partnerships in the Danube Region through a triple-helix approach" is one of the major events of the Danube-INCO.NET project. Its main objective is to support the university-business-government cooperation (triple-helix model) to enhance the establishment and development of bio-based economy partnerships in the target countries, tackling societal challenges in the field of food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, water research, bio-based economy and bio-energy.
The BULGARIA National Event was co-organised by the S3 Platform - S2E project and the Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Exploiting synergies across EU, regional and national funds for Smart Specialisation: Health and Sustainable Manufacturing in Puglia11/07/2016 11/07/2016
The event discussed, from the perspective of the Apulia regions, how to exploit synergies between the Regional OP, the National funding opportunities and those offered by the EC. As well as presentations from national and international experts, the event included a participatory exercise with stakeholders to practically explore how to exploit synergies.
This joint event organised by the Technology Region Karlsruhe and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) discussed how regions and local communities could contribute to reaching ambitious and sustainable greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in the energy sector. The event addressed representatives of the local and regional government level in different European regions, scientists and experts as well as representatives of the European Commission to discuss good practices and innovative concepts for smart energy solutions at local and regional level.

This workshop relates to the activities of the smart specialization platform for energy and is aimed at building synergies among the regions of the Mediterranean Sea to exchange experiences and best practice in the field of smart grid.
