The event discussed, from the perspective of the Apulia regions, how to exploit synergies between the Regional OP, the National funding opportunities and those offered by the EC. As well as presentations from national and international experts, the event included a participatory exercise with stakeholders to practically explore how to exploit synergies.
This joint event organised by the Technology Region Karlsruhe and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) discussed how regions and local communities could contribute to reaching ambitious and sustainable greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in the energy sector. The event addressed representatives of the local and regional government level in different European regions, scientists and experts as well as representatives of the European Commission to discuss good practices and innovative concepts for smart energy solutions at local and regional level.
S3PEnergy: Smart Mediterraneo. Best practices, innovation and pilot projects in smart grid development in the Mediterranean region23/06/2016 24/06/2016
The European Commission Joint Research Centre Institute for Energy and Transport is organizing a workshop on best practices, innovation and pilot projects in smart grid development in the Mediterranean region. This workshop relates to the activities of the smart specialization platform for energy and is aimed at building synergies among the regions of the Mediterranean Sea to exchange experiences and best practice in the field of smart grid.
The ROMANIA National Event was co-organised by the S3 Platform - S2E project and the Romanian Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research & Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding.
The event will showcase specific progress of Smart Specialisation in the area of energy. Particular focus is given to "implementation" and "collaborative frameworks". Good examples in key thematic applications (e.g. Energy efficiency, heating and cooling, sustainable construction, renewables and advanced manufacturing will be presented.
The 7th European Evaluation Conference "The result orientation: Cohesion Policy at work", organized by DG REGIO, highlights the benefits of evidence based policy making.
The Brainport Eindhoven Region hosts the European Commission's Week of Innovative Regions in Europe (WIRE) 2016. This conference of the Directorate-General Research & Innovation serves as a prime event under the flag of the Dutch EU Presidency. WIRE 2016 intends to increase awareness about the importance and urgent need to build regional innovation ecosystems in order to create impact, upscale and aim for global competitiveness.

This DG REGIO High-Level Event will highlight the key role of regions in developing new growth dynamics for Europe, based on bottom-up entrepreneurship and innovation. It will mark the mobilisation of this potential for transformation in priority areas, e.g. energy transition, digital growth, circular economy, agro-food or industrial modernisation. Smart specialisation strategies can leverage numerous new growth opportunities for all regions when aligning their business driven smart specialisation investments in new European value chains.
